Green
From the way their ingredients are sourced to the way their business is run, Badger Balm is committed to sustainable working practices throughout the supply chain. All of their ingredients are food-grade USDA certified organic, and most of their products are made in their own environmentally-friendly workshop in New Hampshire (the exceptions are their soaps and lip tints which are made at a natural products manufacturing facility in Iowa, and their sunscreens which are made in FDA compliant facilities in Vermont and Canada). They even provide their employees with an organic and mostly locally-grown lunch at work every day.
Fairly Traded
The rigorous standards required to gain organic certification mean that every inch of the supply chain is accounted for, which enables high levels of social responsibility in the sourcing of the ingredients for their products. One example of Badger Balm’s commitment to ethically sourcing the finest ingredients available around the world is their organic rose oil; the roses are hand-picked before dawn and distilled the same day, and this precious oil costs over $4000 per litre.
Badger Balm are very open about their suppliers, facilitating transparency in their supply chain by providing a list of some of their suppliers and growers on their website. Many of their ingredients have fair trade certification in various forms, as well as organic labels.
Gives Back
Badger Balm donate 10% of their profits to non-profit organisations that work in children’s health and welfare (including environmental education), the promotion of peace, and local organisations that serve the community. They also match a percentage of their employee’s charitable contributions, and provide them with paid volunteer time in which to work on environmental and community projects. The company has become an advocate for the protection of honeybees who have been greatly affected by the Colony Collapse Disorder.
Cruelty Free
Badger Balm do not test on animals, and have been certified with the Leaping Bunny symbol.
