Hape was founded as an eco conscious toy company in 1986, and strategically considers all elements of their surface treatment, energy consumption, and packaging options at their factory in China to minimise environmental impact and maximise efficiency. They have implemented various systems to make sure that the by-products of their manufacturing processes have a minimal impact on the environment, for example they use a water purification system that significantly reduces the amount of chemicals that go back into circulation during production.

Hape buys materials from 10 countries, and sells to over 50 worldwide. Their factory is located a mere 3 km from the Ningbo-Zhoushan Harbour in China, which is one of the largest ports in the world and enables them to streamline their transportation, which in turn benefits the environment.
