Toothbrush by The Environmental Toothbrush

Bamboo Toothbrush – £2.86

The Environmental Toothbrush was created by a Brisbane-based dentist to combat the 1000 tonnes of plastic that goes to landfill every year in Australia just through the disposal of toothbrushes. Its handle is made from fairly-traded and sustainably-sourced bamboo, which is carbonised to provide resistance to both water and bacteria. The bristles are made from a BPA-free polymer and are, along with the handle, fully biodegradable – meaning that the whole toothbrush can be composted after use.

The brushes are available in both soft and medium bristle, and last just as long as their conventional plastic counterparts. They clean well and feel nice to hold – plus they look great in the bathroom!

Environmentally FriendlyThe bamboo used to make the handle of The Environmental Toothbrush is grown organically by local farmers rather than on large-scale plantations and is cultivated for between three to five years before being harvested. It re-generates itself naturally, without the need for harmful pesticides or large quantities of water. In fact, harvesting and using the bamboo helps to control unwanted spread into agricultural and natural forest areas. The finished toothbrush, including the bristles, is completely biodegradable and will decompose without pollution.
